The year 2020 redefined the word understatement.
That the year was challenging is an understatement. That it was heart-wrenching is an understatement. That it tested the mettle of each and every one of us is an understatement.
It was a year to remember and a year that many (if not all of us) want to forget. And while we may want to forge ahead with 2021, there is something I’d like to celebrate. It is the human spirit.
It’s the human spirit of hope and faith that gives us the strength to persevere in these extraordinary times. We continually embrace volatility and find ways to thrive in our businesses. And after a hard day, back home with our families, we are comforted by a simple hug that recharges, and with God we know that all is as it should be.
Every year brings change and we haven't seen so much change in a single year for more than a century. That 2020 saw a seismic shift is, you got it, not an understatement. The business world is changing quickly, the workplace is evolving to a new model rapidly and we are redefining all the human connections that are woven into our work at light speed.
Among all this change, in April, I joined OneAccord. Yes, when there was great uncertainty, confusion and fear spreading and no safe harbor visible, I came aboard. One reason I joined OneAccord was the mission they live every day. It is an elaborately simple one:
Built on Values
Since April, OneAccord has set out to deliver on that mission more stridently than ever before. We brainstormed, ideated and created innovative ways to provide meaningful value to the business community.
- Within 30 days we developed and deployed our Pivot2Profit webinars to help businesses see the potential for reinvention during this extraordinary season.
- Within 60 days we rolled out our Deep Dive series with a panel of five OneAccord principals and a business owner who worked together for over an hour, at no charge, to focus in on the one issue the owner found most pressing in order to provide insights, recommendations and strategies.
- Within 90 days we created the Pulse Survey so business owners can identify trends and opportunities, and avoid potential pitfalls.
- And, coming in this new year, we will be offering an ever-growing suite of powerful digital tools and resources to help every executive, business owner and CEO build value for their clients, employees and communities.
I believe we have all realized the changes that have been happening are so big, so disruptive, that we are living now, in the now, as never before. Living our values. Doing the things we care about most. There is no time like now to carve out the family time, to embrace and support our colleagues, to persevere together and come out stronger. This I cannot overstate.
