For 30 years, Jim has served as the lead pastor of Highlands Community Church, which has grown from a neighborhood congregation of 700 to a regional ministry with over 2,000 people attending, 35 staff members, more than 800 volunteer leaders and an annual budget over $3 million.
Jim's specialties are strategic planning and tactical execution. He has developed effective board and executive teams as well as a pipeline for emergent next-gen leaders. He has developed executive leadership regionally and internationally, and has led multiple successful capital project fundraisers.
Over the past 30 years, Jim has trained executive leaders in Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia. He raised up, trained and funded over 30 missionaries from Highlands Community Church, and developed sustaining strategic partnerships with local nonprofits such as the Union Gospel Mission, Young Life, Vison House, Crisis Pregnancy Centers, The Salvation Army, World Relief and World Vision. As club president of Rotary International, he helped finish building construction for the local Salvation Army and partnered with Rotary International's goal of eradicating polio worldwide.
Jim holds a doctorate in organizational leadership in churches/nonprofit organizations from Fuller Theological Seminary, a master's of theology from Dallas Theological Seminary and a master's in counseling from The Seattle School. He serves as a licensed mental health counselor at the CoHear/BCS clinics in Bellevue and Tukwila, and has served as an adjunct professor of conflict resolution at Northwest Seminary.
